Job Type

[Yokohama/Yamanashi] Compound Semiconductor Process Development Engineer

Work Detail

Position Overview We are seeking an engineer specializing in process technology development for compound semiconductor optical devices, particularly focusing on epitaxial crystal growth using MOCVD. You will develop growth technologies for quantum well structures and three-dimensional structures, and collaborate with the optical device design department to drive the development and performance improvement of new products. Specific Job Description ■ Main Duties ・Development and optimization of epitaxial crystal growth processes using MOCVD equipment ・Growth control of complex crystal structures such as quantum wells ・Development of a three-dimensional structure formation process unique to compound semiconductors: flat growth → partial etching → regrowth ・Electrode formation process technologies such as sputtering and etching ・Resolving process issues starting from design in collaboration with the Optical Device Design Department ■ Technical Characteristics ・Compound semiconductors (InP, GaAs-based) have a three-dimensional structure, unlike silicon semiconductors, requiring unique growth technologies. ・Crystal growth using MOCVD equipment is the most critical process, determining approximately 90% of the final device characteristics. ■ Current Main Development Areas (Process startup for the same product group as the Optical Device Design Department) ・Next-generation EML (200G-400Gb/s) ・High-power, low-power CW laser ・Long-range tunable laser (Scope of change: Duties as defined by the company)

Ideal Profile

Required Qualifications (MUST) Applicants must have practical or research experience in one of the following areas: • Experience in crystal growth or process development of optoelectronic semiconductor devices: semiconductor lasers, LEDs, photodetectors, optical modulators, etc. • Experience in crystal growth or wafer process development of compound semiconductors: experience in crystal growth (MOCVD/MBE/HVPE, etc.) or wafer process development of InP, GaAs, GaN, SiC, etc. Applications not specified (power semiconductors, RF devices, compound solar cells, etc.) * Research experience: Research experience in one of the following areas: optical communications, optical devices, or compound semiconductors (including master's/doctoral thesis topics and postdoctoral experience) Preferred qualifications (WANT) Candidates who meet any of the following are especially welcome: * Experience operating MOCVD equipment and developing process recipes * Experience controlling the growth of quantum well structures * Experience forming three-dimensional structures such as regrowth and embedded growth * LED development experience * Development experience of compound semiconductor-related materials such as photoelectric conversion materials (from a materials manufacturer) * Silicon photonics development experience Desired candidate profile: * Someone who can persistently tackle problems that cannot be solved easily (a refusal to give up easily) * On the other hand, someone who has a good sense of balance and can quickly discern ineffective approaches * Someone who enjoys cross-functional collaboration and communication, as they will be working with diverse elemental technologies and departments * Someone who feels comfortable working collaboratively and consulting with others in a relaxed, informal setting

What we especially look for in a PhD or postdoctoral fellow
