Recruitment Background The Architecture Unit is broadly responsible for everything from the conceptual design and evaluation of future quantum optical computers to the concrete design using current technologies. We are strengthening our organization to further accelerate R&D toward the realization of quantum optical computers. This position seeks highly motivated and potential individuals with a strong interest in quantum optical information processing technology who aspire to lead the world's cutting edge in architecture design in the future. Job Description As a member of the Architecture Unit, you will be involved in research and development projects, conducting experimental research toward the realization of fault-tolerant quantum optical computers. In particular, you will be responsible for architecture design and experimentation, overseeing the entire quantum optical computer system. Specifically, you will lead research on the architecture design of quantum optical computers. - Design, study, and experiment with system configurations including quantum circuits, optical systems, and control systems. - Investigate, design, study, and experiment with novel architecture proposals. - Collaboration with the theoretical team on specification development. - Technical review and design support in research and development projects. - Performance evaluation and bottleneck analysis of quantum computing systems. - Design review, discussion, and documentation within the team.
Ideal Profile
Eligibility Requirements (Required) - Degree: Master's or PhD in one of the following fields: - Optics (Lasers, Optical Frequency Combs, Integrated Optical Circuits, Nonlinear Optics, Optical Communication) - Quantum (Quantum Information Theory, Quantum Information Physics, Quantum Optics) - English Proficiency: Ability to communicate smoothly with other researchers and quantum computer experts - At least two years of research and development experience in continuous-quantum optical quantum computing (including research during master's and doctoral programs, regardless of whether it is experimental or theoretical) - Basic knowledge of handling Bosonic systems, generation, verification, and evaluation of continuous-quantum quantum entanglement, non-Gaussian states (Schrödinger's cat state, Fock state, GKP state, etc.), and basic knowledge of continuous-quantum quantum computers (basic knowledge of universal quantum computing and error correction) - Experimental experience with continuous-quantum cluster states (regardless of the definition of quantum modes such as space, time, and frequency) - Ability to autonomously conduct quantum optics experiments, including construction, design, and planning of quantum optics experimental systems - Basic knowledge of laser experiments (continuous light or pulsed light) - Basic knowledge of nonlinear optics (Optical wave mixing, sum frequency generation, difference frequency generation, harmonic generation, parametric downconversion, etc.) - Basic experimental skills in quantum optics (interferometer, phase lock, lens system design, homodyne measurement, handling of measuring instruments such as oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers) Qualifications (Preferred) - Experience writing a paper as the first author - Experience writing a paper as the corresponding author - Experience in both experimental and theoretical research - Conversational Japanese language skills - Experience working at a quantum computing-related company Desired Candidate Profile - Someone who understands hardware from a fundamental level and can handle both technology and theory - Someone who possesses knowledge in their own area of expertise while being eager to take on challenges in various fields - Someone who wants to create new value with various people and companies inside and outside the company - Someone who wants to use their ideas to benefit society with flexible thinking
