High-heat-load equipment for fusion reactors is repeatedly exposed to high-energy particles, high heat loads, and electromagnetic forces, requiring high heat removal capacity and resistance to electromagnetic forces. Therefore, tungsten is used for the surface exposed to plasma, and the equipment consists of a plasma-facing unit metallurgically bonded to a water-cooled heat removal structure, and a supporting structure. This research theme focuses on improving the performance of high-heat-load equipment for fusion reactors through research and development related to surface material modification, improved heat removal performance and durability of cooling structures, improved manufacturability and inspectability of support structures, and improved quality of dissimilar material joining and welding. High heat flux components for fusion reactors are repeatedly exposed to high energy particles, high heat loads, and electromagnetic forces, requiring high heat removal capability and durability against electromagnetic forces. Therefore, the surfaces exposed to plasma are made of tungsten, metallurgically bonded to a water-cooled heat removal structure, which consists of a plasma-facing unit and its supporting structure. In this solicited theme, from the viewpoint of improving the performance of high heat load components for fusion reactors, research and development will be conducted on surface material modification, heat removal performance and durability of the cooling structure, fabrication and inspection of the support structure, and quality improvement of joining and welding between different materials.
Ideal Profile
(1) Individuals who are willing to proactively conduct research on the research themes set by this organization. (2) Individuals who have obtained a doctoral degree within the past eight years as of the date of employment. However, for researchers of foreign nationality, those who have obtained a foreign license or qualification recognized by the organization as equivalent to a Japanese physician, radiological technologist, or medical physicist within the past eight years as of the date of new employment, and who are deemed to possess abilities equivalent to those of a doctoral degree holder, are also eligible. If maternity leave as defined by the Labor Standards Act, childcare leave as defined by the Childcare and Family Care Leave Act, or family care leave has been taken after obtaining a doctoral degree, the period of such leave will be excluded, and individuals who have obtained their degree within the past eight years as of the date of new employment are also eligible. (3) Individuals with a history of employment as a postdoctoral researcher at this organization are not eligible to apply. (4) Individuals who can start work on April 1, 2024. (1)A person who is willing to take the initiative in executing research based on the research theme set by QST. (2)A person for whom eight years have not passed, at the time of hiring, since the acquisition of their doctoral degree. maternity leave before or after childbirth under the Labor Standards Act or childcare leave or caregiver leave under the Act on Childcare and Caregiver Leave, this person is eligible if eight years excluding the period of such leave have not passed, at the time of being newly hired, since the acquisition of their degree, etc. (3)Any person who has ever worked at QST as a doctoral research fellow is not eligible to apply. (4)Those who can take office on April 1, 2024.
