Astroscale is seeking a Software Engineer to develop and verify GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) software for spacecraft.
This position involves a wide range of tasks, including flight software development, simulation and modeling, algorithm prototyping, verification environment setup, and development infrastructure automation.
Upon joining the company, you will contribute to the development and improvement of spacecraft dynamics simulations, sensor and actuator models, GNC algorithms, automated verification environments, and software development workflows. Excellent software engineering skills, debugging skills, and communication skills are required.
Development and maintenance of GNC flight software components using C/C++
Development of simulation, analysis, and verification tools using Python
Construction and maintenance of spacecraft dynamics, sensor, and actuator models using Astroscale's proprietary simulation framework (USF-Sim)
Prototyping and evaluation of GNC algorithms utilizing simulation and Monte Carlo analysis
Investigation and debugging of GNC performance issues using simulation and flight software test environments
Construction and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, automated test frameworks, and developer tools using GitLab
Construction and maintenance of container-based development and verification environments using Docker
Supporting mission development and verification activities in close collaboration with systems engineering, GNC, computer vision, robotics, and flight software teams
Contributing to the continuous improvement of software development processes, automation infrastructure, and engineering workflows
Documentation of design content, analysis results, and technical decisions using Jira and Confluence
Ideal Profile
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering field with at least two years of work experience
Master's or PhD in a related field with research/project experience in software development, simulation, aerospace engineering, or a related area
Advanced programming skills in Python
Advanced programming skills in C/C++
Experience in software development in a team development environment using Git, and understanding of modern software development processes
Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with engineers from diverse disciplines
Business-level English proficiency
Experience in building and operating container-based development environments using Docker
Experience in developing and operating software testing, debugging, and automated verification frameworks
Experience in developing spacecraft dynamics, sensors, and actuator models
Experience in prototyping and evaluating GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) algorithms using simulation environments
Experience in performing Monte Carlo analysis on complex systems
Experience in development using Jira, Confluence, and agile development methodologies
Experience in supporting the development of flight software, robotics, autonomous systems, or mission-critical software
Business-level Japanese proficiency

Candidates should hold a Master's or PhD degree in a related field and have research or project experience in software development, simulation, aerospace engineering, or related areas.
