[Lead Engineer] Development of a continuous supply system for laser fusion fuel targets (Research and Development / Mechanical Design / Production Technology / Systems Engineer)

Our company is a deep tech startup originating from Osaka University, aiming to revolutionize energy and create new industries through laser nuclear fusion. In this position, you will leverage your experience in research and development (R&D), mechanical/structural design, production technology, and system control to lead the development of a system for mass-producing cryogenic (10K) fuel targets, essential for realizing laser nuclear fusion, and continuously supplying them into a vacuum chamber. ▍Two areas of expertise we are seeking (experience in either one is acceptable): Completing this project requires insights from two completely different approaches. You don't need to possess all of them. We welcome candidates with either the following backgrounds: [A: Cryogenic/Vacuum Engineering (Mechanical Design / Structural Design / Equipment Development)] This position involves evolving static cooling systems into "dynamic production lines." ・Target: Individuals with experience in equipment development in fields such as elementary particle experiments, superconductivity, space development, and cryogenic physics, or mechanical/structural design engineers specializing in special environments. * **Challenge:** How to construct a mechanism that operates at high speed while preventing heat intrusion at an extremely low temperature of 10K (minus 263°C). High-reliability mechanical design and structural analysis considering thermal contraction, friction, and stress under vacuum and cryogenic conditions. **[B: FA/Precision Automatic Machine Engineering (Production Technology / Control Design / FA / Robotics)]** This position extends cutting-edge production and automation technologies to "extreme environments." * **Target:** Production technology engineers and FA control engineers with experience in developing and setting up semiconductor manufacturing equipment (mounters/bonders), medical automated analyzers, high-speed inspection lines for precision electronic components, and automated transport systems. * **Challenge:** Implementation of a system (in-line inspection) that precisely handles and inspects minute parts (several millimeters) with a cycle time of 10 parts per second (10Hz). Construction of real-time control and embedded systems using high-speed cameras and image processing. **Target:** ▍Specific Job Responsibilities - Development of a system for mass-producing (mass-production and automation) cryogenic (around 10K) laser fusion fuel targets (production capacity of approximately 10 units per second) - Development of production technology and equipment for mass-producing hollow plastic spherical shells (several millimeters in diameter) for DT fuel filling - Development of technology for filling hollow spherical shells with DT fuel - Development of a quality inspection system for hollow spherical shells and fuel-filled spherical shells (high-speed inspection device using image processing, etc.) (inspection of approximately 10 units per second) - Development of technology/transportation equipment for transporting cryogenic fuel targets without melting them - Development of a system for formulating hypotheses, creating basic designs (conceptual diagrams, block diagrams, simulations, etc.), and creating requirements specifications - Project management, direction, and leadership of integrated testing and evaluation after delivery in development/manufacturing outsourcing with partner companies ▍Background of Recruitment In order to operate a laser fusion reactor, the development of equipment that can continuously supply fuel targets at high frequency 24 hours a day is essential. To industrially establish this technology, which no one in the world has yet commercialized, we are seeking individuals with advanced module development and systems engineering perspectives who can build and complete integrated systems. ▍Development Environment and Tools Used *It is not necessary to have mastered all of these upon joining the company. Development will proceed using the following tools and technologies. Catch-up experience with other tools is also welcome. *Design: 3D CAD (Fusion360, etc. *Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, etc. is also a plus) *Simulation: FEM analysis, structural analysis, thermal analysis, electromagnetic field analysis (ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Maxwell, etc. *Experience with COMSOL, etc. is also acceptable) *Control, Software, and Information: EPICS, Python, C/C++ (*Experience with PLC, LabVIEW, MATLAB, etc. is also a plus) *Hardware, Electrical, and Electronics: 4K GM refrigerators (cryogenic devices), vacuum equipment (below 1e-2 Pa), electromagnets (solenoid coils), high-speed cameras, image processing, FPGA
